In 1999, Beatriz Barreal (Founder of Riviera Maya Sostenible) started a journey... to foster a balanced development.
Ten years later, in 2009, 
SUSTAINABLE RIVIERA MAYA was created. An NGO with a visionary leadership for creating a new concept of linkage in Sustainability towards a PARADISE FOREVER AND FOR EVERYONE. Professionals of the GLOCAL (global to local) practice of Sustainability IN REAL LIFE for communities and destinations.
INTEGRAL SOLUTIONS in what we call: S+i: SUSTAINABILITY360º + Innovation: Social, Environmental, Finance, and Governance. We provide linkages between MAYAN COMMUNITIES - LOCAL & TOURISM MARKET - and local, national, and international authorities to create RAISING AWARENESS TOWARDS SUSTAINABILITY.

Destination Certification Process👇
Since 2012, we have led the Certification Process for Riviera Maya - 
GSTC Global Criteria Early Adopter and International Certification process for Playa del Carmen. In 2022 we achieved Bacalar & Playa del Carmen as part of the 
2022 Green Destinations Top100 Stories, which means both destinations are recognised and will be promoted as part of the 100 best submitted, showing their initiative towards sustainable tourism development. Through the Top 100 competition, Green Destinations aims to collect, evaluate and celebrate projects for sustainable development implemented by destinations of all sizes and from every corner of the world, to promote globally and share as inspiring examples to other destinations, tour operators and the general public.

Donations to support Endangered Species🆘
Riviera Maya Sostenible is the official NGO partner which will handle the donations % of MINT from the MAIN collection for 2024-2025 to habitat conservation for 21 threatened or endangered animal species.🐆🐬🦧🦍🐝🐾
The selection of NGO's to whom donations will be directed, will be a dynamic process that will be continuously reviewed and monitored. The selection will be governed by strict protocols of transparency, time of existence and traceability, as well as the ecosystem benefits that the species in protection means to the world.
